With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Cecil Grubbs Jr. of Greer, South Carolina, who passed away on January 23, 2021 at the age of 68. He was predeceased by : his parents, James C. Grubbs and Gladys V. Grubbs. He is survived by : his children, Aprile Raper (Rob) of Greenville, Crissy Grubbs of Easley and Brent Short of Greer; his sister Sherry Grubbs Walden of Greer; his grandchildren, Devin Gilreath (Angel), Amae Durham (Trent) and Holden Raper; and his great grandchild Lincoln James Gilreath.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 30th 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Wood Memorial Park (863 Gap Creek Rd, Duncan, SC 29334). The family will greet friends after the graveside service, keeping in mind social distancing guidelines.

Criminals have found a niche working their craft on Wade Hampton Blvd.Thursday at approximately 5:30 p.m., Check-N-Go at 6140 Wade Hampton Blvd., was the scene of an armed robbery.
It’s the fourth holdup of a business, including two banks, on Wade Hampton Blvd. in 45 days. No arrests have been announced by Greer or Greenville law enforcement.
Chesnee man sentenced 10-years for drug-related wreck

A Chesnee man received a 10-year prison sentence today and 5 years of probation after he admitted to driving under the influence of drugs when he caused a wreck that critically injured a local woman.
Jeremy L. Moss, 36, pleaded guilty to felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury. Circuit Judge Mark Hayes issued a 15-year prison sentence that was suspended to 10 years of service, 5 years of probation, a $5,100 fine and $3,345.42 in victim restitution.
Juvenile, 16, charged with murder of girl, 19, in Greer

A woman who died Monday in a shooting at a Greer apartment complex has been identifed and a 16-year-old juvenile has been arrested.
Zakiya Drinkard-McKinney, 19, of Greenville died Monday at Poplar Place Apartments. A second victim was transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment. That person has not been identified and condition has not been reported.

No more Prisma vaccine walk-ins for rest of week

Prisma Health will not be able to hold any walk-in vaccinations the rest of this week, according to a statement from Dr. Saria Saccocio, ambulatory chief medical officer and co-lead of Prisma Health vaccine task force.
'There are two factors that led to this decision. First, the delivery of our supply was changed at the last minute on Friday. We were told our supply would come in stages over several days this week, instead of Monday and Tuesday mornings. This morning we received only a partial supply delivery for the Upstate – and we still do not know the amount of the rest of supply we will receive this week for the Upstate or the Midlands.
Meridian Waste acquires Greer's Ace Environmental

Meridian Waste announced today it closed on the purchase of Ace Environmental Holdings, LLC, located in Greer.
The acquired assets from Ace Environmental Holdings, LLC, includes a hauling facility at 315 Buncombe Street in Greer servicing residential, commercial and governmental contracts in Greer, Greenville and Spartanburg markets. The Greer location will serve as the primary hauling company for Meridian Waste housing the rolling stock and administrative functions of the combined companies.
Former NGU President George Silver dies at 94

'The entire North Greenville University community is saddened to learn of Dr. Silver's passing,' said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr. 'He had a remarkable career, making a positive impact on so many lives. We are forever grateful for his contributions and dedication to helping make our University the place it is today. NGU sends its deepest condolences to his family.'
Silver was a scholar and an educator whose professional life spanned various leadership roles and responsibilities. Early in his career, he served as a faculty member of several high schools, colleges, and universities. He served as president at North Greenville, Chesapeake College, and Ocean County College.
Police ask for help on bank heist suspect and vehicle

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s help with information about the suspect and vehicle pertaining to a bank robbery last Friday at the BB&T, located at 3255 Wade Hampton Blvd.
The vehicle is described as a white Chevrolet Cavalier with a broken, driver’s-side turn signal. See the pictured vehicle that was used during the robbery, according to the GCSO.
Creform designs and builds angled shelf cart

Creform Corporation, a manufacturer of unique products for material handling and commercial use has designed and built an angled shelf cart for bins designed to hold small production parts and hardware items.
Creform engineered and fully assembled the cart before shipment for the customer’s quick implementation. The cart is one of 25 used by the customer. Creform is located in Greer.
Vaccines for walk-ins at Prisma hospitals available

Prisma Health has reopened walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations to assist those in the 1a category who do not have computer access. The walk-ins will be based on vaccine availability. Prisma Health will calculate its vaccine availability for walk-ins every day based on those who have appointments.

Danner retiring from bank job, continue as Greer Mayor

Rick Danner is retiring from Countybank. He will continue serving Greer as Mayor in his fifth term.
Danner served as Vice President of Business Development at Greer State Bank before joining Countybank in Greer as Business Development Officer in 2017. Danner was instrumental in getting Countybank moved to its downtown location at 300 Trade Street.

Prisma's goal of 10,000 doses is near, vaccine supplies run low

Prisma Health reached 9,370 daily COVID-19 vaccinations on Thursday and is well on its way to meeting its goal of 10,000 vaccinations per day due to the rapid mobilization of staff and the enormous success in quickly standing up two high-volume community vaccination sites in Columbia and Greenville.
No figures were provided for today’s vaccinations, which were continuing through 7 p.m.

Prisma Health is restricting patient visitation effective today (Jan. 9), in the wake of a growing surge of COVID-19 infections across South Carolina.
“We know that being with families is itself a healing therapy and so we wrestled with this decision. But we believe this measure is needed in the wake of the growing post-holiday surge of COVID-19, especially given the growing community spread,” said Dr. Eric Ossmann, an emergency medicine physician who is Prisma Health’s Chief of Preparedness and leads its COVID-19 response system-wide.

Melissa arrived at 4:23 a.m. on Jan. 1. She weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces and is 19 inches long. Melissa is the couple's third child.
Andy Jones, former football coach and athletics director, dies

Andy Jones, former head football coach at Boiling Springs and Hillcrest high schools in the 1980s, died Friday. He was 70.
Jones coached Boiling Springs High School and was athletics director from 1983-88. He resigned from coaching in 1989 after nearly two decades.
